Where to begin when planning a Bespoke Kitchen?

Over the years, we have worked alongside many clients, helping them to design and plan their dream kitchens. A bespoke kitchen is an investment and needs careful consideration at all stages to make sure that you end up with the kitchen of your dreams!

As a starting point, we offer, free of charge, a phone or virtual consultation to discuss your project and initial ideas. Below are a few things to consider before or after the consultation.

Budget

This is the most important aspect to consider at the beginning of your project. Consider how much you have in your budget to allocate for your new kitchen. We have created a blog which helps gives an estimate of costings for a kitchen and we also have examples of pricing on our website to help you. A word of warning... if you are planning a kitchen as part of a bigger renovation it may be wise to allocate a contingency for your kitchen or ring-fence the budget. As the kitchen is always the last project to be completed with a renovation, funds will inevitably be eaten up with other surprising build costs that have crept up along the way.

Visuals

What do you want your kitchen to look like? Years ago there was only magazine cuttings available to share with your designer, today we have Instagram, Pinterest, the web, a never -ending source of kitchen images. It can be over whelming at first, so it is always a good idea to begin saving images of kitchens that you like. Inevitably, over time, your own personal style will show through from your selection and this is great to then share these with your designer. Our clients have often shared with us their personal Pinterest board, from which we can they create their kitchen.

Practicality

Even though a kitchen has to look stunningly beautiful, it has to have functionality and be practically suited to your needs. We have never had two clients the same who want the same from their kitchen. It is so important to really think how you use your current kitchen - consider what works well? What doesn't? What frustrates you? What would make your life easier when it came to preparing the dinner? Ask yourself all these questions as a staring point and again, share these with you designer.

De-clutter time!

Have a good clear out! You would not believe how many clients say to us after they have cleared out their old kitchen, how much 'stuff' they got rid of in the process. Storage is the number one requirement from clients but it is also amazing how much 'stuff' you can actually get rid of to create more room! I always advise to make lists of what you NEED in your kitchen (e.g. place for tin foil, place for baking trays) and hand this to your designer so when they design your kitchen, there is a place for these things.

Hopefully, this has provided you with some things to consider at the early stages of your project. We do offer a free phone consultation or virtual consultation, so please do get in touch if you would like any further advice.
